Glucose Optimizer is a comprehensive combination of nutrients that improve glucose metabolism and antioxidant protection.*Alpha Lipoic Acid facilitates reduction of blood glucose and supports general metabolism by its effects on energy production.*Gymnema, Bitter Melon, Fenugreek and Eucalyptus are herbal extracts that have glucose regulating properties.Green Tea Extract (45% Polyphenols) supports the strength of capillaries and other blood vessels.*Magnesium is involved in the metabolism of glucose and production of energy in the form of ATP.*Bilberry promotes healthy eye function and circulation.*

More than 16 million people in the U.S. have difficulty maintaining their healthy glucose levels (CDCP, 1998). The Westernized diet is high in sugar and refined starches that are quickly converted to glucose once they are ingested. This causes rapid fluctuations in blood sugar and insulin levels, putting stress on the body. Also, an increasing number of overweight adults and children in the U.S. are developing impaired glucose tolerance and other metabolic conditions.

Glycemic Control: Key to Healthy Life

It is important to have well-balanced blood glucose and insulin levels. A growing number of scientific studies suggest that proper glycemic balance can significantly enhance cardiovascular, immune and bone health, energy production, metabolism, and overall well-being.

Following a healthy diet and a daily exercise program can help maintain glucose balance. Adding certain vitamins, minerals and nutraceuticals complements diet and exercise in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.*

Vitamins, Minerals, and Botanicals for Healthy Blood Sugar Levels
Chromium

Chromium is one of the trace elements required for glucose metabolism. Scientific research has shown that chromium deficiency is linked to compromised glucose tolerance, lipid metabolism and weight management. Chromium supplementation has resulted in enhanced insulin sensitivity, improved fasting and postprandial glucose levels already within a normal range, and a decrease in fatigue, thirst, and frequent urination.*

Magnesium

Magnesium deficiency is common in people who have difficulty in maintaining healthy glucose levels, and it may have undesirable effects on the brain, eyes and cardiovascular system. Magnesium plays an important role in glucose transport and metabolism.* Clinical studies have suggested that magnesium may improve insulin secretion and sensitivity as well as peripheral glucose uptake.*

Vitamin B Complex

The vitamin B family is critical for healthy carbohydrate metabolism and cellular functions. For example, vitamins B1, B5, and B12 help in the release of energy from carbohydrates. Niacinamide supports the health of beta cells, the cells that are responsible for secretion of insulin.* It also helps to protect the peripheral organs and blood vessels from oxidation and other damage caused by excess sugar metabolites.* Vitamin B6 and biotin are known to enhance insulin secretion and sensitivity while maintaining normal blood glucose levels by regulating the production and storage of glucose.*

Powerful Antioxidants: Vitamin C, E, α-Lipoic Acid, Resveratrol

When blood glucose levels fluctuate above the normal range, free radical activity in the body increases. The powerful antioxidants, vitamins C, E, α-Lipoic acid, and resveratrol can reduce oxidative damage by minimizing protein glycation and lipid oxidation as well as by enhancing glucose metabolism, insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity.* α-Lipoic acid may also directly improve glucose transport across cell membranes and regulate glucose storage in the liver to help maintain healthy blood glucose levels.*

Botanicals for Glycemic Control
Gymnema Sylvestre

This Indian/Ayurvedic herb has been used for more than 2000 years for healthy glycemic balance. Gymnema sylvestre stimulates beta cell function and growth, while helping to maintain healthy blood sugar and insulin levels.* Multiple clinical studies have shown a significant improvement in blood sugar balance compared to the placebo groups.*

Banaba Leaf and Wild Bitter Melon Extracts

Banaba leaf and wild bitter melon extracts contain potent bioactive compounds. Banaba includes corosolic acid, lagerstroemin, flosin B, reginin A, and lectin. Wild bitter melon includes compounds that exhibit both insulin-mimetic and insulin-sensitizing properties while also activating the metabolism of fats for energy.* The active components of these ingredients maintain healthy blood glucose levels by stimulating glucose uptake and metabolism.*

Eucalyptus Leaf Extracts

Eucalyptus leaf extract contains many antioxidants that can positively affect glycation and oxidation of proteins and lipids, both of which are observed more frequently in the presence of elevated blood sugar levels.* Recent scientific research suggests that this biologically potent extract may enhance glucose transport and glucose metabolism.* Eucalyptus leaf extract can stimulate insulin production contributing to balanced blood glucose levels.*

Jarrow Formulas Glucose Optimizer is a unique blend of the natural vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and nutraceuticals that are described above in detail. These ingredients have been well-documented to promote healthy blood sugar levels and total well-being.*

Ideal formula for glucose management First, I have not been diagnosed with diabetes, nor do I have a prescribed medical need to monitor my glucose/blood sugar levels. However, I do believe managing one’s glucose levels are pertinent to maintaining overall health, which is a primary concern of mine. And as a weightlifter, optimizing insulin levels are of utmost importance when trying to build muscle and minimize fat gains. As such, I am always seeking supplements to help balance/regulate my sugar levels, and Jarrow Formulas Glucose Optimizer may now be my favorite supplement for this purpose.Having tried various products such as Natty Nutrition’s Slin-Trol, and Southland Performance SLINtensity, I must say the ingredient profile of Jarrow’s product is far superior. For the price, you get an incredible blend of herbs, minerals, and vitamins, in efficacious doses. Ingredients such as Fenugreek, Gymnema Sylvestre, Alpha Lipolic Acid, and Chromium have been recognized as some of the best for managing glucose levels, each of which is found in spades here. On top of that, you also get high doses of Banaba leaf, Taurine, Green Tea and a B-vitamin complex, all of which add up to a top-notch formula! Is the product effective? Having nearly finished the bottle, I have to believe, yes, it is. I have managed to see significant gains in the gym, adding lean muscle to my frame, while only adding a modicum of fat — all while on a substantially higher carbohydrate diet (350g plus per day) than I have been in the past. Without Glucose Optimizer, many of the pounds I added would have simply been stored as fat, due to the fact that excess sugars, if not managed well by the body, go right to my waist line.Overall, I highly recommend this product, whether for medical reasons or for simply managing one’s sugar levels for daily health. I will definitely continue using Jarrow Formulas Glucose Optimizer in my current supplement program, in hopes of making more gains in the gym!

Your Mileage May Vary… Unfortunately I am a Type II diabetic, which I have to imagine is the market that Jarrow is aiming at with its Glucose Optimizer product. I can’t imagine anyone who has Type 1 diabetics taking this, since it couldn’t really have any appreciable effect. Also, I think that the product is simply too expensive to be used by non-diabetics for “prevention”, since there are far better and cheaper ways to lower one’s chance of contracting diabetes. Pre-diabetes patients might be a candidate for this product, but with the number of prescription drugs out there that do such a great job of handling mild cases of diabetes at a much lower price (about $5 for a month’s supply) I’m not sure who else would be in the market to buy this formula.First off, I have taken a number of over the counter products that claim to help lower blood glucose levels. Most of them contain similar ingredients. Most are fairly expensive, and few have any major medical studies to back up their claims. Jarrow seems to have taken quite a number of individual supplements that have been rumored to help lower blood glucose levels and put them together into what is a very convenient package. If you were looking to try any of the individual supplements listed in this formula, you might actually save some money by just picking up this single formula instead. Single dosages are in 4 medium sized tablets that are easy to swallow and not horrible tasting.I went about testing this product in a fairly scientific fashion. Over the course of a few weeks, I tested the formula’s effect on my blood glucose levels in the following manner: First, I took my blood glucose reading after not having eaten in two hours. Then, I took the recommended dosage of Glucose optimizer with a glass of water. After one or two hours I would check my blood glucose readings again to see if my glucose levels had dropped. After dozens of tests, the results were conclusive. Glucose Optimizer did not cause my blood glucose levels to go down after taking them. I have also been measuring long-term results from my blood glucose tests over the course of a few weeks. Again, the averages show no meaningful signs of change. Since there are no written directions from the company saying how long I should be expected to wait until the Glucose Optimizer product “works”, I have no choice but to conclude that the formula simply does not work for me.So, why am I even bothering to give the product 3 stars? Well, first, the company never really made any specific medical claims, so I can’t very well say as they didn’t deliver on their promises (they made none), the pills seem to be well manufactured, and from the company’s reputation I believe that Glucose Optimizer likely does include all of the supplements it claims to (unfortunately, many supplement manufacturers short-change their customers on ingredients these days), and lastly, just because it did not work for me, it is not impossible to believe that someone may actually benefit from this product. Different people’s bodies react differently. This product just doesn’t happen to work for me. Then again, neither have any of the other over the counter supplements I have tried thus far.If you’ve never tried any of the supplements in this formula and have the money to spend, go ahead and try it. I think that most diabetics would be better off sticking with the advice of their Doctors though and only take prescription medications with a long track record of successfully lowering blood glucose levels.

Didn’t work for me I was feeling nauseated and bowel upset each time I took full dose. If I lowered the does, it was alittle better but my blood glucose level stayed the same. I wasn’t able to see it work at full potential because of diarhrea when taking the full dose. taken with food, before or after meals, it didn’t matter. The results were the same. I researched the ingredients and read that Alpha Lipoic Acid can cause diarhrea. That was probably causing my problem.
