The Points Plus® program assigns point values to every recipe based on the nutritional makeup of the dish. The participant tracks the points on a daily and weekly basis to ensure the total points consumed in a given week stay within a targeted range. This range is based on certain factors tailored to the participant’s current weight, goal weight and other factors, such as gender and age. It is a simple program to follow; there is no need to be hungry, skip meals or do without your favorite foods, but there will have to be some management and modification of your current eating habits in order to be successful with the program.

Foods that are rich in protein and fiber are assigned less points, and they represent the most filling way to “spend” your points. Foods that are rich in fat and carbohydrates have a higher point value. One of the greatest aspects of this new program is that it provides unlimited quantities of vegetables low in starch and fresh fruits that are low in sugar content. There is no reason to be hungry, while there are plenty of opportunities to re-visit some age-old recipes in a healthier manner. In general, ingredients should be fat-free, low sugar and cooked appropriately, or the point value will increase. The success of the plan is based on your efforts – only you can manage that.

As with any diet plan, you should familiarize yourself with the Weight Watchers® program, both through research and discussions with one of the many leaders and professionals available to assist you as you move toward a new way of eating – and a new you.
