Why do we get sick? How do we get well? How do we avoid getting sick again? These pages attempt to answer these fundamental questions in Health and Healing, but the real joy of the book isn’t in learning the answers, but in following the method down the path to an answer. Looking at options such as homeopathy, a treatment that, to an outsider, seems more like a leap of faith than an actual system of healing. Conventional medicine is great at handling trauma and sudden, life-threatening conditions like heart attacks, but it’s less good at dealing with chronic conditions like arthritis. These pages will show you how to go beyond conventional medicine and empower you to take healing into your own hands today.

NO relaxes and enlarges the blood vessels, prevents blood clots that trigger strokes and heart attacks, and regulates blood pressure and the accumulation of plaque in the blood vessels. Dr. Ignarro’s current research indicates that Nitric Oxide may help lower cholesterol by facilitating the actions of statin drugs like Lipitor.
The goal of the regimen presented in NO More Heart Disease is to age proof the cardiovascular system, keeping the vascular network clean and elastic through enhanced NO productivity. The plan is easy-to-follow without extreme lifestyle adjustments, involving taking supplements to stimulate Nitric Oxide production, incorporating NO friendly food into the diet, and a moderate exercise program.

Completely redesigned for easy reading and fully updated with the latest research and information on current practice, medication, legal matters, and specific conditions, this new edition of a vital resource is full of tips, suggestions, and strategies to deal with chronic illness and symptoms, such as fatigue, pain, shortness of breath, disability, and depression. It encourages readers to develop individual approaches to setting goals, making decisions, and finding resources and support so that they are able to do the things they want and need. Originally based on a five-year study conducted at Stanford University, this work has grown to include the feedback of medical professionals and people with chronic conditions all over the world. Aimed at letting people become self-managers of their own illness, this book’s one simple goal is to help anyone with a chronic illness to live a productive, healthy life.
Health insurance has become the leading political issue of our day, but much of the recent debate about how to pay for it has overlooked the negative impact it has on American’s health. Health insurance in fact encourages unhealthy behavior and risky attitudes to health that ironically and perversely have led to our skyrocketing health care costs.
This book was written to share with a much larger audience what we have learned about the impact of health insurance on individuals’ health over the past 20 years. It all started in the late 1980’s as an idea to get people to live healthier lifestyles which earlier research by several others supported the concept that this would be very effective in reducing disease. It quickly became apparent that individuals felt no need to do pay for this on their own as they “had insurance to cover health related costs”.
After discussions with several health insurance providers, it was clear that most did not understand the concept of prevention. They could understand doing something after experiencing a large health care claim, but the notion of spending money before the subscriber was ill was an anathema to most of them. A few insurers along with many large employers, who are most often self insured for health care costs, readily saw the merits of spending a few dollars to save a lot of dollars. Many were even willing to reward their employees for making significant lifestyle changes. Thus an approach to prevention was born which over the next 18 years has been very rewarding in terms of motivating and helping people change their behaviors.
We learned a lot along the way. Initially we only worked with individuals who either had or were at high risk for developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes. We later learned that excluding healthy employees who might have high risk spouses did not make sense and expanded the programs to anyone who wished to participate.
It was exciting and rewarding to see the changes in people’s behaviors and resultant dramatic improvement in measured risk factors. Two-thirds of all participants over those 18 years made significant measured reductions in their risks. The impact on their sense of well being was most amazing and an unexpected plus. Many entered the programs only if 100% assured their confidentiality would be protected. After seeing their results and realizing how well they did, they could not wait to tell everyone about it.
An independent analysis of data from our programs was performed by Watson Wyatt Worldwide. This was funded by an employer who wanted to know if they were financially benefiting from our programs. The results indicated greater than $5.00 saved for every $1.00 spent on our programs. This is considered an extremely high return on investment (R.O.I.).
Many individuals who were familiar with our programs, but did not work for any of the companies where we ran programs wanted to know how they could participate on their own. Hence this book which incorporates the actual lectures and slides into narrative form as given at the worksites. It also allows the perpetuation of what I believe can make a very important difference in your life as you work your way through these lifestyle changes.
We hope that readers of this book gain a greater understanding of how risky behavior, encouraged by health care, has led to a broken health care system while endangering the lives of millions. Fortunately, there are immediate solutions that individuals can undertake today to reverse declining individual and national health, and we hope our book addresses that.

Childhood Obesity has become a global problem. Obese Kids aged 10 years are developing, among other diseases, Type 2 Diabetes, also known as Adult Onset Diabetes, in other words, an “Old Person’s Disease”.
They haven’t even found a name for it yet, and many of the medications being used are not suited for kid’s use.
This book has been written by a type 2 diabetic who, some 20 years after contracting the disease, has developed at least two of the main complications, severe nerve damage and a muscle wasting disease. But there are many complications with far worse effects than these.
The shock at finding that ten year olds were getting type 2 diabetes because
of obesity has compelled him to write this book in an attempt to wake people up to these complications.
(VHS Video) This program examines heart disease through the eyes of a young man who’s at risk of a heart attack because of a family history of the disease. The program explains the four major factors that contribute to heart disease: smoking, cholesterol, high blood pressure, and lack of physical activity. The program compares risk factors and their significance and discusses which can be controlled, and explains the importance of cholesterol, the role of family history in predicting heart attacks, the effectiveness of lifestyle changes, and the importance of exercise.

Furthermore, it can eliminate the need for expensive and invasive surgical interventions, such as bypass and stents, no matter how far the disease has progressed. Dr. Esselstyn began his research with a group of patients who joined his study after traditional medical procedures to treat their advanced heart disease had failed. Within months of following a plant-based, oil-free diet, their angina symptoms eased, their cholesterol levels dropped significantly, and they experienced a marked improvement in blood flow to the heart. Twenty years later, the majority of Dr. Esselstyn’s patients continue to follow his program and remain heart-attack proof.
Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease explains the science behind these dramatic results, and offers readers the same simple, nutrition-based plan that has changed the lives of his patients forever. In addition, Dr. Esselstyn provides more than 150 delicious recipes that he and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have enjoyed for years and used with their patients. Clearly written and backed by irrefutable scientific evidence, startling photos of angiograms, and inspiring personal stories, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease will empower readers to take charge of their heart health. It is a powerful call for a paradigm shift in heart-disease therapy.

Potbelly syndrome (PBS) is a metabolic disorder that affects about one-third of the adults in industrialized countries. Its most important symptoms are abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. Contrary to popular belief, these conditions are caused by chronic infections, not by bad habits. PBS is initiated by a small, long-term excess of the stress hormone cortisol. The extra cortisol stimulates our appetite and slows down our metabolism. It makes fat accumulate in places where it isn’t wanted or needed. Most of th fat settles around our waists, but some of it settles in our liver and muscles. Liver and muscle cells aren’t supposted to store fat, and the fat prevents them from working correctly. As a result, we feel tired and hungry much of the time. As our potbellies grow and our PBS gets worse, our blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin, and blood sugar levels rise. Most of the excess cortisol is produced in response to mild, chronic infections. Some of the germs that cause PBS also produce sores in our arteries. When these sores are large enough, they can block artieris and cause heart attacks. “The Potbelly Syndrome” explains how to diagnose and treat some of the germs that cause PBS and heart disease. If you’ve done everything you were supposed to do and still gained weight, became diabetic, or had a heart attack,or if you are a medical professional who suspects that there are serieous gaps in the current understanding of obesity, disbetes, and heart disease, “The Potbelly Syndrome” will provide you with the answers you need to bring about better health.
Firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and other emergency responders face many dangers daily from exposure to smoke, deadly temperatures, and stress to issues surrounding personal protective equipment (PPE), vehicle safety, and personal health. Although publicized firefighter fatalities are associated more often with burns and smoke inhalation, cardiovascular events, such as sudden cardiac death, account for the largest number of nonincident firefighter fatalities.
While sudden cardiac death is the leading cause of death among firefighters, other factors affecting firefighters’ health, wellness, and safety result in multiple deaths and injuries each and every year. Through the collection of information on firefighter deaths, the USFA has established goals to reduce loss of life among firefighters. In order to achieve this goal, emphasis must be placed on reducing the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease as well as on the mitigation of other issues affecting the health and safety of the Nation’s firefighters.

“In addition to explaining inflammation’s causes and its role in various diseases, the author offers advice–‘an antiinflammation game plan’–on how to maintain ‘inflammation balance’ and feel better.”–The New York Times
In clear, everyday language, William Meggs, M.D., explains what causes inflammation, its relationship to disease in the body, and what steps readers can take to minimize their risk.
Stand up to heart disease and win like I did! Yes, I have proved that heart artery plaque can be removed. I have reversed my heart disease. My cardiologist performed an angiogram in 2009 and informed me that the two small areas of arterial plaque he saw in 2007 had been reduced to half the original size in only 25 months. The diet, supplement, and drug regimen I present in Chapter 4 lowered my LDL cholesterol level 100 points, which is necessary to reverse coronary artery disease. High HDL cholesterol is also necessary to reverse heart disease. This is one of the most important scientific facts for you to know in order to achieve optimal health. Without increasing HDL cholesterol, you cannot reverse heart disease. My regimen worked like a miracle to increase my HDL cholesterol from 57 to 66, or 16%. It’s amazing. My LDL cholesterol was reduced 100 points to 68. Low LDL cholesterol reduces the work that HDL cholesterol must do to clean the arteries. This makes the HDL more productive and efficient. The LDL/HDL cholesterol ratio is one of the most important blood chemistry measurements for determining coronary artery disease risk, and my awesome reading was only 1.03. Insulin is the number one contributing factor to coronary artery disease because it promotes the formation of plaque in the arteries of the heart. It also produces plaque formation in other arteries of the body and leads to peripheral artery disease, stroke, and kidney disease. Insulin causes cardiovascular disease because it forces LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, calcium, heavy metals, glucose, and free radicals to bind to the arteries throughout the body. My scientific research proves that excess glucose consumption and high insulin cause Type 2 diabetes mellitus, and statistics have shown that 65% of diabetics will die from heart disease. I anticipate that my scientific approach to controlling glucose and insulin will prevent Type 2 diabetes 100% of the time and reduce symptoms in those who have already been diagnosed. Elevated triglycerides are a primary risk factor for heart disease. My regime reduced my triglycerides to 71 quickly and dramatically. The ratio of triglycerides (TR) to HDL cholesterol (TG/HDL) is one of the best indicators for heart disease risk. Triglycerides should be below 100 mg/dL, and HDL cholesterol should be above 50 mg/dL, for a ratio of 2.00. Improving the TG/HDL ratio will substantially reduce the heart disease risk. Some people are walking time bombs with a ratio of 6.00 or greater, and a ratio of 4.00 is very common. The ratio on my blood test was (71/68) = 1.04. My regimen has been shown to remove atherosclerotic lesions and calcification throughout the body with virtually no risks and very few side effects. Millions of people have been using the low-fat, low-cholesterol, high-carbohydrate diet that has been promoted for the last half-century in the mass media for prevention of heart disease and stroke. During this same period, the numbers of new cases of heart disease and stroke have not decreased as promised but increased, and type-2 diabetes and obesity, which were uncommon 50 years ago, have grown to become major epidemics.
In this book, heart disease, stroke, type-2 diabetes, obesity, and cancer are termed the modern nutritional diseases because scientific studies and biochemical facts clearly point to the modern American heart-healty diet as a major underlying cause of these diseases. This book describes the changes that have taken place in the American diet over the last 100 years and explains how these changes were accelerated after 1930 by advances in food technology. The book presents biochemical and other scientific evidence to show how these changes are implicated not only in the modern nutritional diseases but also in other growing disease problems such as Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, senile dementia, and depression.
This book shows how micro- and macronutrients relate to health and disease prevention. It also shows how faulty science has influenced national health policies and explains how the reader can sort truth from fiction. The final chapter outlines simple dietary and lifestyle changes that can significantly reduce the risk of the modern nutritional diseases and, at the same time, improve one’s health and sense of well-being.
