Carbohydrates come primarily from non-starchy vegetables and fresh fruits rather than grains. Most of these foods have a low glycemic index, so they’re digested and absorbed at a slower rate, so blood sugar levels don’t spike, a major consideration for diabetics. Proponents claim that the diet contains enough vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and antioxidants for good health. In the book, the author explains how and why the paleo diet promotes a healthier lifestyle, despite some practices which contradict most conventional nutrition advice (for example, consuming more meat). The old adage `you are what you eat’ certainly summarizes why everyone should embrace the Paleo Diet.Most contemporary foods include processed foods and foods high in salt and sugar and empty calories and toxins.   3. Great book for Paleo diet Beginners Yes, its a great book if you are thinking of going with the Paleo diet plan. It not only has all the info you need about the origin and basics of the diet, but also detailed diet plans and a host of original recipes that I loved. The chapter concerning Paleo diet and diseases is pretty cool stuff, unbelievable at first but true and proven by science!The primary reason why I say that the book is good is because of the FAQ section. The book does not only have paragraph after paragraph of info but useful and very common questions that a beginner generally has, are answered satisfactorily in a list of FAQs.Further, the tricks for making the transition to Paleo easier that are provided in this book are bound to be handy for all beginners.The author clearly explains the difference between the diet we eat currently and the diet that our ancestors used to eat, that is recommended on the Paleo diet. We are able to make a clear distinction between what is allowed on the diet and what is not. This understanding can go a long way in helping one stick to the diet.There is also the part where the author talks about the Paleo diet for athletes, which people will find useful. Then there are a bunch of good recipes, from Paleo lunches and dinners to Paleo Snacks and Appetizers. Some of these also fit into the meal plans that are provided.Overall, its a useful and affordable book and one of the best ones to get you started on the Paleo diet.
