Flawed but worth getting Just to explain my rating system: I think that it is a rare and exceptional book that deserves 5 stars; 4 stars are for very good above average books; 3 stars means it is average, but worth reading; 2 stars are for those books I use to keep me occupied when I have nothing else to do; 1 star means that I actually read it, although I’m not quite sure why.I used to use sourdough a lot, thus my interest in looking at the book description. The description gave me some information that I never knew before about sourdough, so I decided to get it.The author states that the information given is based on scientific research, but gives no references other than one mans observation of longevity on a Greek island.Assuming the stated scientific proof of benefits to be accurate, there is certainly quite a bit of info about sourdough that I did not know.The book did rehabilitate my interest insourdough, and gave some recipes I am interested in. However, at least a couple of recipes I looked at had some items obviously missing from the list of ingredients. I also think the expected results stated in some recipes to be suspect.Despite its flaws, I think the book is well worth getting for the information given on sourdough.

  2. I have been a cook and a baker for many years but one thing has been elusive to me since the day I started cooking, sourdough. I can’t get it right, I can’t start it, I can’t even use it once I get it started. I don’t know why because I can make anything you can think of, I can even taste a dish in a restaurant and copy it exactly at home. Sourdough doesn’t come that easily for me which is why I was elated when I saw this book! I flipped through it a little, then decided to buy it and, let me tell you, it was well worth the money spent. Not only did I get some very tasty recipes for sourdough breads and rolls, but I also finally figured out how to make the sourdough starter! Finally! The recipes in this book are very easy to make and the instructions and background information was really helpful. There is even an interesting history behind the sourdough itself which the author shares with the reader. If you have ever wanted to make sourdough bread, this is the ONLY book you will need.
